Kiss Me, I’m Irish is a read-along of HOUNDED by Kevin Hearne, and hosted by Felicia of Geeky Blogger’s Book Blog, Amanda of On a Book Bender, Ash of Smash Attack Reads!, Jen of In the Closet with a Bibliophile and me!

Week Four Discussion Questions: Chapters 21-25 + epilogue

1. In a moment of anger, Atticus reveals something about himself that he usually keeps very secret, for his own benefit. Has something similar ever happened to you? Have you ever spilled a closely guarded secret in a moment of excitement or anger or absent-mindedness?
I’m terrible at keeping secrets about surprise events. I just get so freaking excited, and I feel like I’m gonna burst. Luckily, I haven’t ruined any surprises yet, but I think my hints are usually pretty obvious, though my family is pretty good about letting me get away with it.

2. Atticus tells Mrs. MacDonagh, “the universe is exactly the size that your soul can encompass. Some people live in extremely small worlds, and some live in a world of infinite possibility.” Then he asks her what she is going to do with the new information she has discovered. What would you do if you found out that other beings were among us? Would you deny it or embrace it?
Embrace, embrace, embrace! Of course, with my luck, if vampires and werewolves revealed themselves, they probably wouldn’t be the romanticized versions I’ve dreamed them to be, but I still believe there is more in this vast universe than our known species.

3. So far, Atticus has revealed a few of his powers and has even shared some power by putting bindings on Granuaile. What do you think has been his coolest or most helpful power so far?
Well, the invisibility seemed to be the most helpful so far, especially if you happen to find yourself naked and needing to nap under a tree. But the shape shifting is pretty freaking ninja!

What I love most about Atticus is that though he can access to great power through the earth, he doesn’t abuse his power. He knows it’s about give and take and maintaining a balance. He’s like the president and treasurer of the Tree Huggers Association.

4. Atticus gets pretty pissed when he finds out that Aenghus Óg is drawing power from the Earth and, in turn, killing it. That’s when Atticus decides he must fight the old Fae for committing such a heinous offense. What is something you would fight for, even if it meant you might die trying?
Besides fighting for my right to PARTY, I’d also get my dukes out for my family. My sister will tell you that I’m a pretty aggressive and overprotective ‘momma bear’, much to her chagrin. And my reply to her is, “why don’t you try being the oldest sister of six and see how you feel?!” Besides, it’s common knowledge that big sister knows best.

5. What did you think of the final showdown between Atticus and Aenghus Óg? Did it go down the way you expected? Was there anything about their battle that surprised you?
I wasn’t expecting Atticus to go down so quickly when first reaching the fight, but I thought it was great because it did show that he’s largely human and could be killed. And I thought it was funny that Aenghus Óg turned out to be nothing more than a bully who wasn’t really capable of fighting his own battles.

6. What was your favorite/least favorite part of Hounded? Who was your favorite/least favorite character?
Aside from Atticus, Mrs. MacDonagh and Oberon were my favorites. Seriously, I’ve learned a lot from Mrs. MacDonagh. In a couple of years (hehe), when I’m the same age as her, I plan to have some hot, neighborly guy coming over to cut my yard. He’d also be shirtless of course, so I could ogle him properly from the porch swing while shouting out inappropriate comments that will be ignored due to my advanced age.

My least favorite character was probably Granuaile! Okay, that’s not entirely fair, because she’s kind of cool, but dammit, every time Atticus swooned over her, I turned a little green.

My favorite scene was when Atticus and Leif fought those Fir Bolgs. I loved the way they played off of each other. It was fun.

7. What do you think is coming up next for Atticus? Will you continue reading this series, and if so, what do you hope to see happen in the next book?
Epe! I’m bursting at the seams here. Should I spill all he surprises? You know I want to. hehe

I’m all caught up on the series so far, and I’m eagerly awaiting Tricked! I hope to find out if a certain vampire is okay. *bites nails*

*note to self- don't tell Missie about any surprises*

You are SO right! Sisters DO know best. My brother is 7 years young than me, and you would think he would've learned by now.

I can't wait to read the next book. Thanks ladies for hosting this!

I love it! Pres & Treas of the Tree Huggers Assoc!!! “Respect my Authoritai!!!” And great point on Aenghus being nothing but a bully ~ some god of love, huh?

I forgot about Leif and Atticus fighting together, that was pretty cool. I don't think it'll spoil anything but Leif is one of my favorite characters (I just forgot about him, tsk, tsk) and he only gets better ;)

Thanks for helping host this awesome read-along!! Have a great weekend!!

As a big sister myself (it's only me and my brother, though), I have to agree. We know best!

I just finished listening to Hammered yesterday and… eep! I must get Tricked asap!

As a big sister to 3 younger siblings—you tell them! Seriously I don't think they get how hard work it is to keep everyone out of trouble. I feel like a protective mama to her cubs!

How come I am not surprised that you would a)embrace the vampires/weres with open arms and b)would fight for the right to party :)

Heh… you remind me of me when I was wittle. I couldn't keep a secret if my life depended on it. I would just burst! LOL

Btw, my mom calls me her pit bull. :) So, I guess we have that in common. :D Although I do have to remind her that my pittie was a total wimp and a sweetie. I think she should switch to momma bear. LOL

Okay.. don't spill… I have the others here waiting for me to continue the adventures!! *hold fingers in ear and sings nah nah nah nah nah*

“He's like the president and treasurer of the Tree Huggers Association.” Yes! A major reason I love him so. He respects the Earth. ♥

You are totally going to be a Mrs. MacDonagh, aren't you? lol

Ahhh….the days ahead of us. Sitting on the porch drinking whiskey & verbally molesting the hot lawn man (no boys allowed). Good times ;)

by Seanachie on March 30, 2012

Invisibility was pretty high up my list, too, but the need to be naked kinda kills the utility. :)

As a young sibling who has 3 older, overprotective siblings I do appreciate the mama bear claws but it does get claustrophobic at times. Just saying. ;)

And please don't spill, I've only read Hexed next and I got Hammered on hold from the library. Still waiting for it to come in. *pouts*

Wow..oldest of six. I a sure you are a wonderful older sister. The President of the Tree Huggers that is too funny. I agree about Atticus going down so early and then getting his ear chewed off. That sucked. Loved your comment about sitting outside watching a hot guy do your yard work while making inappropriate comments. Will you toss back some whiskey before church too? This was an awesome read along again! Thanks for hosting Missie :)

@Melissa, I love having things in common with you, Bee! And hurry up and finish the series so we can gush about Atticus together.

@Rummanah, I know. I really do try to back down, but sometimes it's physically impossible. LOL

@Heidi, I'll never forget what Atticus said after getting his hear chewed off: “And the pain was unspeakable, worse than reading the collected works of Edith Wharton.” LMAO!!!

You know I would be right there embracing the supernatural with you Missie! Complete with a t-shirt that most likely has the word “whore” on it, prefaced by something like “vampire” or “naked werewolf” or “Hex Boy”:) Have a great weekend my friend!

I love that your least favorite character is Granuaile. LOL! You're hilarious. My favorite power of Atticus' is also the earth power. How freaking cool is it when he just takes off his shoes and BAM! he's all kick ass and stuff. Like how he can run forever without getting tired because of the earth. Funny part is, every time he walks around barefoot all I can think is he's going to step on something bad. LMAO!

Our sisters haven't dealt with our pain. Our cynicism balances out their hopes. True story! ;) *huggles your face*

Sorry for posting up my answers late, it was a crazy ass week and Hubs was home this morning. GAH! I'm all bitter at him because I want to go see 21 Jump Street and he's throwing the whole “rated R” in my face. Who cares! I just want to watch Channing Tatum! LOL!

What a great idea to get a hot lawn boy and ogle over him. Mrs. MacDonagh totally had the right idea!

I loved Oberon. I think if I could understand animals thoughts I would just laugh all day long, but I'm sure it would be exhausting too.

Heh, I was thinking of things like getting cold, or tripping and getting scraped up in…inconvenient places.

Yes, I highlighted that line, probably end up in the quotes section…well still wondering are you going to be drinking your whiskey while you say those inappropriate things? Oh living in my head is entertaining. I am a rebel, I curse like a sailor and am a deviant, but I look so innocent ;)

ROFLMAO – love the tree hugging comment – I think Atticus probably invented the whole society. Should have got on board with the Granuaile comment – but kept spelling her name wrong (dagnabit).
I'm definitely getting a hot lawn boy – unless my husband objects that is!
Thanks for the questions. On my way out but will be checking everyone's replies shortly.

Ooo that's such a good thing to learn from Mrs MacD, suddenly getting old has become far more appealing. I didn't have a least favourite character, but there was something about Gran that bugged me, maybe that was it;)

I'm terrible at keeping secrets about surprise events too! It's not our fault if we're so excited for it that we get the Party Poker Precious Grin on our face (which really looks like someone who just got four aces in poker) LOL x) And this made me laugh: “He's like the president and treasurer of the Tree Huggers Association.” < -- I'll battle him out for the position as long as he promises not to use his kick-butt invisibility skills!

Awwww, the read-along is over! I'm going to miss your funny answers, Missie! :') <3

I'm with you re. “others”: EMBRACE it baybee! Wouldn't it be so cool? I'd be all over it.

And just think, now that Granuile is Atticus's apprentice, he can't jump all over her (wait, did I skip ahead? I'm mixing up my books a bit).

Good for you that you have caught on with the series. :D I'm checking out the nearest bookshop if they carry the other titles. I don't know if you follow the TV show 'Smallville' but if I reach Mrs. MacDonagh age, someone like Justin Hartley's near Adonis physique (according to my friend)will do just fine. Wait, I think just pick my Atticus. hahaha. Thanks for rounding up the read-along. I enjoyed it a lot.

Think of Granuaile this way…the only nickname that would work for her is Granny…not very sexy now is it?? lol

Ugh, every one of your update posts makes me kick myself for STILL not reading this. It sounds awesome! I love it when a good UF series catches my fancy, and this one sounds like it'll fit the bill.

So glad you ladies enjoyed your readalong. :) It was nice for those of us who didn't participate to live through you vicariously, too.

Ha ha! I would definitely embrace it if there were other beings but like you said they probably wouldn't be the ones we fantasise about! There's definitely got to be more to this world hasn't there.
Only just having a chance to check out people's answers!

I love that, fight for your right to party!!! It would be great to be like Mrs MacDonagh when we reach her ripe old age. She's definitely got the right attitude!

Thanks for hosting this read-along. It's been most enjoyable I'm waiting in anticipation for Tricked too! I can't wait! Hope luscious Leif is all ok!
