If I’m ever in the mood to read anything in the horror genre, I know I can race over to Midnyte Reader, but I’ll only attempt to read these books that go bump in the night if Pam is holding my hand. I consider her to be pretty brave based on some of horror book reviews I’ve read on her site. When Pam’s not reading in the dark, she is rocking book signings. I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but she is currently hosting a Breathless Reads Tour giveaway in which you could win a signed copy of one of the Breathless Reads books! *squee*

Oh, and she has also motivated me to read some of those classics I’ve been meaning to get around to with her Dusty Volumes Reading Challenge. I’m so pumped!

But reading at midnight is the only thing Pam does. Let’s see what else.

I want to thank Missie at The Unread Reader for asking me to post this week. I was beyond flattered.

Since most of my free time is taken up by reading, I try to squeeze in a lot of other hobbies in my “non-reading time.”

The main thing I like to do is write fiction. (I’ve found that a lot of avid readers are aspiring writers or write for fun.) As with reading, I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. When I was cleaning out my parent’s house, I found a “book” that I must have written when I was about 5 or 6. I wanted to take a picture of it for this post, but couldn’t locate it. However, I can tell you that it started out “Once upon a time” and ended “…and they lived happily ever after.” Hopefully, I’ve gotten a bit more original since then. I’m not looking to be famous and I’m not that aggressive with it. I write because I love it and I just want to create something that I’m proud of. A few years ago I met a gal in one of my writing classes and we formed a writing group. We now have eight people and we meet once a month to critique and brainstorm. I get lots of support and inspiration from them. Plus we just have a good time!

When I’m not reading, writing and blogging, I’m celebrating Halloween. How do I do that? It’s easy. I love Halloween and everything it entails so I keep the spirit alive throughout the year by watching spooky movies, collecting Halloween antiques, legend tripping, planning for October and working in the Haunted Attraction industry. (Meaning Haunted Attractions that operate in October, not haunted attractions that ghost investigators visit.)

I also love to travel and I’ll take any opportunity to do so. The farthest place I’ve been is the Soviet Union and my favorite places are Ireland, England and New Orleans. Of course, I love NYC too…and luckily only live about an hour away (depending on traffic). I love going into the Big Apple and seeing shows, exploring and playing tour guide for friends. But let’s be honest, I really love going to the East Village Goth shops, The Slaughtered Lamb Pub and Strand bookstore.

Other hobbies I’m involved in are pottery and jewelry making. Oh yeah and I like to sew dolls too. I make my mother in law a Santa Claus doll every Christmas and I keep meaning to make other dolls throughout the year, but never seem to find the time. You know how that goes.

I work as a secretary but that’s basically just the place I show up so I can bankroll all of the above and occasionally eat. That’s about it for me. I want to thank Missie again for asking me to be part of this feature. Please peruse her blog. You’ll find great reviews, excellent writing and clever content.

Halloween all year round?! How brilliant is that, Pam! And I love that you write for the simple joy of it. Your group sounds fun and inspirational, your crafts are awesome, and NOLA and England are a few of my favorite places too!

Pam doesn’t know this, but I have saved her tweet to me that said she would pick me up at a NY airport if I ever need. One day may find us browsing Strand bookstore together! :P

This is such a fun post. I'm laughing because I also wrote a book when I was around 6 that started with “Once upon a time.” And Halloween is my favorite holiday too! That's so cool that you collect Halloween antiques.
