five Great Re-Reads

With so many good books coming out everyday and so many that are already out waiting to be read, it is hard to justify taking up precious time to do a re-read. But these books are so enduing, they are definitely worth the effort.
The Reader by Bernhard Schlink. Is there a better story than that of a woman so ashamed to be illiterate that she is willing to pay to ultimate price to hide her secret? Or of the boy that learned acceptance through a shared love of the written word? Their affair was one of kind desperation. The simple yet illustrative narrative offers a story that pulls at your heart, leaving a lasting impressions that makes you very appreciative to be able to read while shedding light on the crimes done to those who can’t, so much so, that you can’t help but to pick up the book for multiple re-reads.
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I’m so in love with Henry DeTamble, I can’t breathe when he is around. Butterflies flutter in my stomach while I read his story from his POV. Who else would travel back in time to kindly remind the woman that he loves that his future self can sometimes be a jerk or to jump into the mosh pit at a Violent Femmes concert? Add that to the fact that he works at a library, loves to read, is a runner, and show up naked at the most unexpected places, and you’d got my ideal guy list. I’m constantly re-reading my favorite sections or listening to the audio book of this one.
Persuasion by Jane Austen. Timeless, beloved classic. Need I say more? Of course not, but I will. Maybe it has to do with it being the first novel by Austen I read, but ever since my eyes passed through the pages of Persuasion, I been blinded to see how any other story by Austen could be better. I blame that Letter! Oh, to receive such a letter. To read it again and again. *le sigh* No surprise here, but Captain Wentworth is my favorite male lead of all the Austen men. And I often play pretend and think myself Anna Elliot’s reincarnate soul. Surely, you can see our resemblance, right?
A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks. Long before Edward Cullen stole hearts with his gentlemanly ways, Landon Carter paved the way. Landon knows first hand that not all loves stories with a happily ever after, but he also knows how to cherish the time you have left with the person you love. From his grand gestures to his simple words, Landon journey from rebellious teen to honorable husband is truly something to remember, and taking the time to re-read about his first lost love and the faith and the healing he found through her is worth every minute.
All the Pretty Horses (Border Trilogy, #1) by Cormac McCarthy. I can certainly understand that McCarthy’s works are not for everyone. In fact, the few friends I have suggested some McCarthy titles to all come back and want to hit me. And each time, I’m honestly perplexed. Sure the prose can be a bit dry and it is definitely gritty, but it is also kind of remarkable. This one is my favorite of McCarthy’s. Young cowboy John Grady Cole proves himself to be his own brand of hero, one which I really grew to admire. And, I loved the forbidden romance. I own two copies of this book, with two different covers, plus the audio book. Love it more every time I read it.

Fun list although I've never read any of them – but keep meaning to get around to A Walk To Remember; I found the film surprisingly touching after not really expecting to like it.
