FIVE Great Debuts

Hosted by Persnickety Snark

These are my favorite debuts of 2010! Totally awesome must read & own novels!

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Meghan Chase was pretty startled when she realized she had been wearing blinders her whole life. Her best friend Puck is none other than Robin Goodfellow. Yes! That Robin. Still, Meghan barely bats an eyelash as she runs off to the NeverNever to save her kid brother. Along the way she meets Prince Ash, who threatens to kill her, so naturally she falls in love with him (and I did, too). *le swoon* Awesome world building and character development makes this Fae fantasy something more like a roller coaster thrill ride. You will find yourself holding your breathe at the same time you want to scream out loud! Plus, there is a cat. (my review)

The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff

Life ain’t easy for Mackie Doyle, especially since he has pretty much been living a lie. But don’t expect me to spill the beans on his little secret, because there are creepy little things… things that not only go bump in the night, but also chew and shallow. As if that wasn’t enough, a boy has gotta figure out a way to get his groove on while battling the forces of evil, which he hails from. Yeah, it’s complicated, but good news is that Mackie can handle it, and if he can’t he has a whole lot of awesome covering his back. It’s good to have friends who care. (my review)

Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus

Persephone “Phe” Archer can’t really tell you much about what is off about the new town she moved to, Shadow Hills. Phe only knows that she intends to find out, especially since something deep inside is telling her that her sister’s death is somehow related to it. That is if she can keep her hands off of local heart throb, Zach, long enough to focus. Not that anyone could blame her. He is pretty delicious and oddly perceptive. Maybe something is up with him too? But no, say it ain’t so. There may be only one way to solve this mystery. And it may involve a bit of magic. (my review)

Shades of Atlantis by Carol Oates

Whether it’s a typical case of best friend turned boyfriend or love at first sight romance, Triona Pryor ain’t buying it. Until she meets ‘the one’. Now it is all she can do to stay away from the cryptic but beautiful Caleb. It’s like she is drawn to him, but she doesn’t quite understand why. Has she been enchanted by his scent? (Me thinks so). Before she can get a grasp on their budding love, something terrible happens, and she is left lost in what might have been. But don’t be fooled because if there is one lesson that must be learned, it is that love always prevails. Right? (my review)

Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins

Really, what is the point in trying to help others if they aren’t even going to appreciate your efforts. Sophie Mercer would like to know. No one ever said magical spells couldn’t backfire. And there wasn’t much harm done. But just try explaining that to the powers that be. Unable to get out of her latest scrap, Sophie finds herself stuck at a special school with others of her kind. Not cool! Until she meets Archer Cross. With him in the way, will she be able to pull off the hearts in front of her eyes long enough to look for the evil eye? (my review)

Okay, so all my favs have a definite theme here with magic, faeries and mystery. And I really have no clue why I blurbed these instead of gush about why you need to read them now. Saying awesome on repeat might get a little boring or it might lose meaning (*shudders the thought*). To be filed under things that make you say hmm…

I've read the first 2 and agree with you… Team Grim! Just don't let him see you called him a cat. ;)

I've been curious about Atlantis since your review. :)

This is an awesome idea! If I wasn't up to my ears in my Readers' Choice Awards, I would definitely join in! Either way, I look forward to seeing everyone's post!

Out of the books you picked, I've only read (and loved) The Iron King. The rest are on my TBR list though!

P.S. You've been nominated for Best Blog of 2010 for my Readers' Choice Awards. HERE's the link, if you're interested in checking it out!
