When I’m Not Reading featuring Reading with Tequila

I asked Jennifer from Reading with Tequila to share a bit of what she likes to do when she is not reading, and I can’t say I was surprised by what my Buffy loving, awesome book blogging friend shared. Here is what she said:

You’d think coming up with an answer to what I do when I’m not reading would be easy. I read a lot, but it’s not some crazed, 24 hour obsession (yet). I’ll admit I was stumped at first. I’m a stay-at-home mom to 3 daughters. I do the regular stay-at-home mom things. I cook, I clean, I do never ending loads of laundry, I change a disgusting amount of diapers and I try to keep my kids from killing themselves and each other. Exciting, right? It’s quite a glamorous life I lead.

I’m sure you’d all like an in depth look at my diaper changing shenanigans, but I actually managed to think of something other than reading that I do for purely entertainment purposes. I watch zombie movies. Zombies are huge right now and I’m sure many consider themselves true aficionados of these movies. We’ve all watched George Romero’s OF THE DEAD movies. We’ve watched the RESIDENT EVIL movies, ZOMBIELAND, SHAUN OF THE DEAD, 28 DAYS LATER, and probably THE EVIL DEAD movies. I’ve seen them. I’ve loved them. But they aren’t the kind of zombie movies I truly delight in finding.

I am a horrendously bad zombie movie freak. The worse the movie, the giddier I get. It’s a form of torture my poor husband barely tolerates. But, really, how can you not love the awesomely bad makeup? The non-existent plots? The cheesy dialogue and the (obviously) fake blood and guts?

Have you seen BOY EATS GIRL? Teen zombies with a huge amount of gore. How about DOOMED? It’s a zombie survival reality show and utterly amazing. Have you gone old-school and watched NIGHT OF THE COMET? Valley girls are going to fight zombies? Oh and the clothes. The early 80s styles. Wow. Classic.

Or how about the western comedy UNDEAD OR ALIVE? I expect this type of thing from Chris Kattan (of SNL), but the addition of James Denton (of Desperate Housewives) makes it all the more ridiculous. The much less comedic western QUICK AND THE UNDEAD? Because really, how can you go wrong with zombie-hunting cowboys? Many, many ways. It’s an unintended laugh riot.

ZOMBIE STRIPPERS? Robert Englund (aka Freddy Krueger) runs a strip club and the strippers are, you guessed it, zombies. It’s hilarious. Or the so bad it’s truly awful DIE AND LET LIVE? I’m pretty sure that one was a student film.

I just can’t help myself. My Netflix queue is full of them.

Thanks Jenn! Now not only am I picking up some great book recommendations from you, looks like I will be adding to my Netflix queue, too! Bring on the cheesy plots and fake blood, and I’ll eat it up!
