Monster High (ARC review)
Monster Highby Lisi Harrison
Synopsis (Product Description):
Frankie Stein just enrolled at Merston High School in the quiet town of Salem, Oregon. She is looking forward to all that the future holds: rockin’ parties, shopping sprees, and, of course, cute boys! But high school hides a MONSTER of a secret: The fantastically fabulous kids of the world’s most famous monsters hang out in plain sight among the “normie” student body! Even though she was created only fifteen days ago, Frankie is wise enough to know that if her secret gets out, her high school dreams could be as fragile as her not-entirely-secure body parts!
When she meets normie newcomer Melody Carver, who has a crush on a boy from the monster clique, Frankie begins to wonder if Merston High is big enough for monsters and normies to coexist – but is it work the risk to find out?
Review:
It’s alive… and it’s awesome! I can’t get over what a fun, funky and fresh read this was. It’s 90210 meets The Musters, and Frankie Stein is my home girl!
I could not keep up with the number of times I laughed out loud reading the story of Frankie, a girl with mint green skin, just looking to be accepted as she is. Or of Melody, who is so tired of people judging others by how symmetrical their face is. Both start a new year at Merston High, hopeful that they will be able to fit in, and maybe even find love. But mystery lurks in the dark shadows of the town; a secret community of abominations…er…outsiders are determined to keep their true identities concealed, fearing the risks of being exposed and persecuted.
When the freaks decide to come out of the crypt to attend the school dance as they are, Frankie being the evil mastermind behind the idea, all kinds of wicked ciaos ensues! All I can say is, heads will roll…or float… or maybe both!
The mix of characters was great, with guest appearances from every type of monster. It was fun to guess who was a “normie” and who was a RAD (Regular Attribute Dodgers), and some even had me stumped until all was reveal. Plus, Merston High was literally crawling with all ‘types’ of cute guys!
