Like Water for Coffee

If there is one thing I can’t live without it is COFFEE! The warmth, the smell, the caffeine.  It is all just so wonderful.  In fact, my favorite thing to do on a Saturday morning is roll out of bed, boil some water in my little red kettle, and throw in some instant coffee so I drink cup after cup while lounging on my couch with a good book. Heaven!

Recently, I’ve been looking into getting a new coffee maker. One that can keep up with my addictive habit.  To tell the truth, I’m kind of scared.  I’m so dependent on my kettle.  But, as much as I’m loving the convenience and deliciousness of the instant coffee packets from Starbucks, I also wanna try some of the new brew blends I’ve gotten, like Kona coffee and, of course, the Cafe du Monde coffee I picked up in NOLA.  I even have a coffee blend from Guatemala that a friend brought me when he visited that has been sitting in my pantry because I have no way to brew it. Gah!

So I thought I would get y’all opinion on coffee makers.  Is it worth it to spend a lot on a coffee maker?  If so, what kind? Also, what is your favorite kind of coffee.  Or do you got any recipes for yummy cold coffees, cappuccinos or frappuccinos.  Please share!

I'm a coffee machine addict! Despite going through different machines over the years, I love a regular French Press. My friends have a Nespresso machine, with pods, and it is really yummy. Not sure if I can make the pod jump, but it's fun to visit them. -Westie

Sorry, I don't drink coffee but I'll have an Iced Cappuccino from Tim Hortons any day. ^.~ Yum. They're so good.

Alas I love the smell of coffee but not the taste so I can't help you there. I'm stopping in from the hop to check out your blog. Have a great weekend, Dianne

Hey darling,

My water kettle broke last week *sobs*, so I've been boiling water in a pot.

Anyways, I'm an instant coffee addict. The best brand I've found here in Denmark is actually from a discount supermarket chain. I like a the fancy lattes and LOVE Starbucks, yet nothing compares to a hot, freshly brewed cup of coffee – my dad's coffee was a little cup of heaven.

A friend's mother gave me a coffee maker that honestly looked like an electric water kettle (mine is similar to this http://www.percolatorcoffeepot.net/wp-content/uploads/West%20Bend%2054149%20Electric%20Coffee%20Percolator.jpg ). You put water in it, put the coffee in a special built-in filter, and voila the magic begins. The good thing about it is that it boils the water and doesn't just heat it up. Plus you don't have to worry about running out of coffee filters.

If all else fails you can do it the old way with a funnel and thermos.

Have a great weekend,
Green

I am on board with you on the coffee lovin' train….However I am the only one in my house who enjoys it so making a pot while tempting can be wasteful some days. lol.
I use instant and love the starbucks ready brew but I love to add hot choclate to it and voila Mocha at home.
I also like the french press but not the percolator, grinds always end up in my coffee not a big fan of that.
have a great weekend!

I'm not a coffee drinker – except for the occassional ice cap from Tim Horton's, but my MIL and SIL are! They have a coffee maker that grinds the beans to make fresh coffee – but it isn't an espresso maker. They swear by it. My hubs has this nifty little plastic filter that you place on top of the cup, add a regular paper filter in with coffee and pour the hot water through. He likes it, but he loves the coffee from his mom's machine.

Good luck with your search! I know how important good coffee is for people to start their day off right. ♥

Okay, I found one that looks like the one my husband uses – except his isn't porcelain.

Hey Everyone! Thanks so much for your comments!

@Green, A broken kettle! Gah! I think I would burn my water without my kettle. LOL!

@Inkbella, AWESOME idea! Adding hot chocolate to the instant brew! I can't wait to try it!

@Sweetpea, Thanks for the link! It looks easy enough to use. ;)

I am a coffee addict, and I HIGHLY recommend the Keurig machine — it costs a bit more, but the coffee is fantastic, and instead of getting a bag of coffee, you get a box of these little single-cup coffee doohickeys (I don't know what the right word is for it) — so many flavors, so many options, and it's so much better than having a pot of coffee that sits out all day! Fresh every single time! Right now, I'm in love with a particular brand called Donut Shop and the flavor is a Chocolate Glazed Donut — sounds super sweet, but it's fantastic (I drink it black with one sugar). It has seriously changed our lives — I would not go back to a pot of coffee, a French press, or anything else! Much more efficient, fresher, and not to mention, easier to clean!

I just have a regular coffee maker and it's all good. I do buy cuban espresso though, which I brew in there instead of regular blend. (I like strong coffee). I haven't had the Starbucks instant. Do you just heat water and then add it? Sounds like it'd be perfect for work…

@Christina,

Yes, the instant packets are prefect for work, and because it's Starbucks, it is pretty strong stuff. Just dump it into a travel mug, throw in some hot water and cream (optional), mix and go!
