Father Mine: Zsadist and Bella’s Story by J.R. Ward

Product Description
Readers met and fell in love with Zsadist and Bella in J. R. Ward’s third New York Times bestselling novel in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, Lover Awakened. As a former blood slave, Zsadist bore the scars from a past filled with suffering and degradation until Bella came along and helped heal his emotional wounds. Now, though, with the birth of their child, the demons of his past have been resurrected, called forth by the innocent eyes of his beloved daughter, Nalla. Unless Bella and Nalla can bring him back with their love, he may be lost to them forever-

Review
This side story takes place in between Lover Enshrined and Lover Avenged, and words can not describe how beautiful this companion story is.  I think what I enjoyed most about it was the way it shows that keeping your Happily Ever After takes work, sacrifice, and commitment.  Zsadist and Bella have both been through the ringer, and in Lover Awakened, the power of love renewed them. With Father Mine, the concept that love is sometimes not enough elicited a sense of panic and realism in the way real relationships function, especially in the case of Zsadist and the internal demons he battles.

The story finds Bella feeling very alone in raising Nalla; Zsadist won’t touch her and refers to her as Bella’s young, not their young.  Bella also believes that Z has lost his attraction to her.  Their disconnect is heart breaking.   And through their second journey through self discovery, more of their character is reflected, and it doesn’t take long for them to realize that their family is sacred and precious!

Grab your tissues because, emotional up heave aside, fans of the BDB series will agree that this side story is a must read!
